Streaming problems

Hi

I am experiencing very slow interupted streaming while viewing internet videos and movies. I am sing windows vista, aol broadband with a netgear wireless router. I have real player one set as my default media player. I have tested my internet speed and it is 16.5kbps. Can you suggest what steps I could take to resolve this issue, thanks.
