Street Life gearing up for his Grade 1 victory in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga
Trainer Chad Brown has decided to postpone, Street Life’s scheduled work, as rain ruled out his chances of coming out on the track for a breeze ahead of the Grade 1, $1 million Travers Stakes at Saratoga on 25th August, 2012.
There was ample risk involved to get the runner out on a wet track.
Owned by Hidden Brook Farm and Magnolia Racing Stable, the colt completed a five-furlong work-out in an impressive 1 minute and 01.01 seconds on 14th August. This was steady improvement as before this, he completed the distance of 4 furlongs
in 50.93 seconds on 9th August, 2012.
Brown told the media that he had concerns regarding the weather. He didn’t mind two work-outs within the same week if the first one missed the mark completely. The work he turned in on 9th August had the horseman worried.
The handler stated:
“We just adjusted his schedule. I thought he worked well. I got him in [1:00.66]. He galloped out well and came back very good.”
Street Life has exhibited his talent at many different occasions over the course of his career. In seven starts, he holds an overall record of 3-0-1.
The victories include his maiden at Aqueduct, the Broad Brush Stakes at the same track and the Curlin Stakes at Saratoga, where he finished 1 ¾ length ahead of Five Sixteen while Ever So Lucky finished in third place.
The sophomore looks in good shape and ready for another victory. Currently, he has career earnings worth $234,405 and he is more than determined to add to that.
The trainer discussed the temperament of the runner and stated:
“He can be a lazy horse, and everyone knows it. When you shake him up and put him in the bridle, he goes. That’s what I saw today. He was strong going to the pole, he got in the bridle, stayed in the bridle the whole way – which is what I wanted to
see – and he came back good.”
The trainer stated the runner’s performance in the Curlin was great and there is a chance of an encore because Street Life is in his best possible form.
