Street Life heading the field of eight in Curlin Stakes at Saratoga
A total of eight runners will attempt to step up in their division, when they gather at Saratoga Race Course for the $100,000, Curlin Stakes on Friday, July 27th. The 1 1/8-mile event has not attracted a huge crew, but all 3-year-old colts and
geldings are pretty impressive graduates.
The line-up includes the big guns like Winslow Homer, Turbo Compressor and the Eclipse Award winner, Blame. Chad C. Brown’s dashing colt, Street Life, will also be showing his magic in the big battle.
According to the present card, the son of Street Sense is heading the market following a few fine efforts lately. Owned by Magnolia Racing Stable, the rampant runner was fourth in the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes last month.
The Curlin Stakes will be Street Life’s fourth graded appearance and despite the fact he has not yet shown anything special at the top level, the talented runner seems to have the best chance in Friday’s big battle.
Bred in Kentucky by Mueller Thoroughbred Stable Ltd, Brown’s trainee made his graded debut in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial, when finishing sixth at Aqueduct. He subsequently managed to finish among top-3 in the Grade 2 Peter Pan at Belmont Park.
Ever So Lucky is another fascinating candidate. Jonathan E. Sheppard’s charge started his graded journey with an outstanding effort, when finishing second to Gemologist in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club. In his sole Group 1 trip, he was awful, finishing
10th behind Dullahan in the Blue Grass at Keeneland in April.
The son of Indian Charlie looked to have regained his momentum by bagging a comprehensive 7 1/2-length allowance victory at Delaware Park, where he was mounted by A. Cintron for the first time.
"He didn't beat much in his last race, but he did everything beautifully. It's kind of exciting to have a 3-year-old with a lot of natural speed in the barn," said Hall of Fame trainer Jonathan Sheppard.
On the other hand, Nick Zito will be represented by Easter Gift, who was second in his only graded race at Monmouth Park last month. Expecting his trainee to enthral in the upcoming contest, the Hall of Fame handler shared:
"He's only made three starts, but obviously, Saratoga's the spot, so the Curlin's the spot."
