Street Life on his way to the Travers Stakes after seizing the victory in the Curlin Stakes
Street Life did his best and emerged victorious from the $100,000, Curlin Stakes at Saratoga on 27th July, 2012, where he rode in the capable hands of rider, Jose Lezcano.
With this victory, chances are that he will run in the Travers Stakes, which will be hosted at Saratoga on 25th August, 2012.
Over the course of 1 1/8 miles, the son of Street Sense recorded the victory in 1 minute and 50.68 seconds, 1 ¾ lengths ahead of Five Sixteen, while the third spot was secured by Ever So Lucky.
The early lead in the race was taken by Love To Run, who completed the first quarter mile in 23.64 seconds, but Easter Gift caught up and took the lead, crossing the half-mile marker in 47.68 seconds.
Street Life, owned by Hidden Brook Farm and the Magnolia Racing Stable started to make progress in the final stages and battled it out with the front-runners and did the job.
Trainer Chad Brown was immensely pleased with his charge and, the way he tackled the mud-track. He appreciated the effort that the rider put into the race as he said:
"Jose rode a good race, kept him a little closer today, which we talked about. With that horse, if you give him the opportunity to be a little lazy, he'll take it. We're getting to figure this horse out and Jose executed it perfectly."
The handler stated that, he knew Street Life would be able to handle the track, which is exactly what happened. He was more focused in the mud and did what he had to do to win.
Now, the three-year-old runner holds an overall record of 3-0-1 in seven starts, and has earnings of $33,486. His record would bolster with a graded victory, which he might achieve soon enough if he runs in the Travers Stakes.
The trainer discussed this possibility but, said that the well-being of the colt comes first. He said:
"As long as the horse is okay and doing well, he'll be ready for the Travers."
This season the Kentucky bred runner finished 6th in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial Stakes, 3rd in the Grade 2 Peter Pan Stakes and 4th in the Belmont Stakes.
