Street Life will try to resolve his identity crisis in the Peter Pan Stakes
Chad C. Brown trained 3-year-old colt, Street Life, will be seeking his identity when he runs in the Grade 2, $200,000 Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont Park on 12 May, 2012, against 11 other 3-year-old colts to run over a distance of 1 1/8 miles on the dirt track.
Chad C. Brown doesn’t know where does Street Life fits in the current 3-year-old crop, but he still goes on to say that the colt’s sixth place finish in the Grade 1, $1 million Wood Memorial is not a true assessment of the colt’s real talent.
However, he might have a dip in class in the Peter Pan Stakes after the Wood Memorial; it still won’t be a cake walk for Street Life, who will go against some seasoned campaigners like Mark Valeski and The Lumber Guy, and the upcoming 3-year-old sensation Summer Front.
Owned by Hidden Brook Farm and Magnolia Racing Stable, Street Life after finishing eighth in his debut race, bounced back to claim his maiden special weight race at second asking when he won at Aqueduct race track.
Going over a distance of 1 mile and 70 yards, Street Life made it look easy not once but twice, as he landed his next race at Aqueduct as well at about 1 1/16 miles, when he ran in the Broad Brush Stakes on 17 March, 2012.
Everything was going fine and dandy, until he met the likes of Gemologist and Alpha in the Wood Memorial, and got exposed, but Brown had his time to rectify the mistakes he identified ahead of the Peter Pan Stakes.
“I don’t really think it was the horse’s fault in that race,” Brown said. “I think he found himself far behind early and I don’t think we learned anything positive or negative about the horse in that race. He had no chance going into the first turn; he was way too far behind. Actually on the [far] turn I was surprised he made up as much ground as he did.”
The change Brown made after the son of 2007 Kentucky Derby winner, Street Sense, Street Life’s sixth place finish is that he has turned out on the track to track in blinkers thrice now, which could turn out to be effective going into the Peter Pan Stakes.
