Street Sense vs Hard Spun in the Ky Cup Classic?

who wins it?

I'm cheering for Street Sense because I just adore Calvin Borel, and also because I hate Hard Spun's owner with a passion. If I see that d**n little bow tie in the winners circle, I'm not going to be happy.

  1. Street Sense. I just don't think Hard Spun is suited for the classic distances. HIs best performance so far has been in the King's Bishop Stakes which was a sprint.

  2. One of Hard Spun's best races was on Polytrack at Turfway, while Street Sense has run the worst races of his career on artificial surfaces.  Carl Nafzger has used these Polytrack races as tighteners for bigger events - the BC Juvenile, the KY Derby - and now that is what he is doing.  I don't think this is a prep for Hard Spun - this is his moment to shine and I am sure we'll see Mario Pino riding to win, while Calvin is going to try and get Street Sense ready for the real goal.

  3. Between these two, I would say Street Sense.  But the one thing to remember is that both times Street Sense ran on polytrack/synthetic tracks, he destroyed the fields in his following races in the BC Juvenile and the Kentucky Derby.

  4. This is a tough one to call! Hard Spun has been training on poly track, Street Sense hasn't. Carl Nafzger will absolutely positively tell Calvin not to get into a hard knocking battle... he has his sights on the ultimate goal Breeder's Cup Classic. I can't quite get a read on Hard Spun's intent... both of their breeding rights have been sold to the same man: http://www.pennsylvaniaequestrian.com/ne...

I honestly believe that Larry Jones will will tell Mario Pino to send Hard Spun, just so he has the bragging rights of having beaten Street Sense.

  5. Sorry to disappointed you, but the "Darley Stud is a thoroughbred breeding operation owned by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai and vice-president of the United Arab Emirates" have bought both Street Sense and Hard Spun right for breeding.

  6. I love Street Sense, too! I love Calvin Borel too. He is one of my favorites! Street Sense should run well in the KY Cup Classic b/c Hard Spun is more of a sprinter type. Hard Spun should be on the lead most of the way. The only bad thing is the Polytrack. Street Sense has not performed extremely well on Polytrack. (Toyota Bluegrass Stakes) Hard Spun has. That is the only thing I can think that would let Hard Spun have a slight advantage. Street Sense should win!!
