granted that I'm on the skinny side since I'm asian and only 5'3". What's the best street bike for someone who is just starting out? I'm planning to get a bike after i turn 18. I want something that is able to go reasonably fast because there is just something about speed that draws me in. And don't include any cruisers, I much prefer the sport bikes.

  1. IF U WANT CHEAP ONE GO FOR HYOSUNG GT 125 OR 250 OR 650.IF U WANT BEST ONE HONDA CBR 125 OR CAGIVA.GOD LUCK

  2. If you're only interested in going fast, you're already on your way to killing yourself.  Honestly, if you want to ride for real, look into a smaller bike that will be lighter and a little easier for you to control and learn on.  The new Ninja 250 is a great looking sport bike that has plenty of power for someone of your size and isn't going to overpower you.  I'm 6' tall and almost 190 pounds and am getting one for myself.  They are pretty nice bikes.

  3. Start with the beginning rider's course from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. You'll learn on 125 and 250cc bikes. At your size a 250 may be enough for you but that shouldn't limit your choice at all. I've seen girls your size easily handle 800 pound Harleys. You say you don't like cruisers but try some anyway. You may find you like them a lot more than sport bikes. I like riding sport bikes but they aren't very comfortable for any long distance rides. After you take the class you can visit a few dealers to get an idea of what models you like and what will fit you. Then find a used one, either at the dealer, the newspaper classifieds, or cycletrader.com. Don't buy a bike without trying it out first. You can't tell how it will handle just by sitting on it . After you get some experience you'll probably want a bit bigger bike. Do the same thing to find something a little bigger that fits you and buy another used one. Take the experienced rider courses as you go. You'll see people with all different kinds of bikes and you'll probably get to try some out. Don't waste money on a new one until you've tried out quite a few and are sure of what you want and need.
