Question:

Street fighting?

I recently moved to a shifty neighborhood and am wondering what kind of fighting style would be good for defeating someone in a conflict? I have never really had to fight and am not sure what would happen if I got in one, but would like to know ahead of time where I can start.

I used to take Aikido, although I don't remember much other then how to break someones arm and am pretty rusty all over when it comes to the art.

  1. Start in boxing. You'll build speed strength, and confidence in a clinch.

Once you learn how a real fight goes down you can move from that style to something more complex like wing chun, bagua, taekwondo, mauy thai, whatever.

Arts that usually have good schools.

    Muay thia

    Kickboxing

    Wing chun

    Bagua

    Arnis

    Silat

    Krav maga

Systema looks cool, but I don't know anyone who trains in it.

Remember stay standing, and don't act big and bad.

  2. thug-jitsui lol

  3. I live in an area where someone got shot by a machine gun on my lawn.  I have had relatively few conflicts, none of which have escalated to the physical while living in this area.

    How?

I say hi and bye to people.  Show everyone respect, whether they be older, younger, deserving and non-deserving.  I am even respectful to people who I can tell know they deserve a ************, for I can see the guilt in their eyes.  Outside of that, I mind my own business.

I do not come and go at ridiculous hours.  I do not go to places where the hoodlums congregate.  If the ridiculous hours have to change, I change them.  I pay attention to my environment and avoid people who give off bad vibrations.

If I'm backed into a situation where a fight seems inevitable, I turn off all fear and am ready for whatever.

Don't ever underestimate the value of kind words, alertness and respect.  They are life-savers.

And, last but not least, I pray.

  4. honestly why wonder unless your looking to fight someone. Do you.. or should i say are you looking to fight. and to remember how to break someones arm. ? really if the neighborhood is that bad. why did you move there in the first place. You shouldn't look for fighting to be an awnser. So I wont awnser this just for the points or to tell you what style I believe I know most about. But I will say if you dont enjoy the neighborhood. move. change your surroundings. As a lifelong student of martial arts. I would say dont fight. if you train train for you. not to be better on the street.  As for me I was allways told the best weapons are a good attiude and a smile.

  5. well go with some thing like krav maga or muay thai.

I highly reccomend Wing Chun kung fu.  Many people think that kung fu is bad for self defense but Wing Chun is great for this purpose.

u should do some reserch on the arts that you want on the net.

  6. The fact is: most if not all martial arts styles are completely usless in their traditional way in self-defense. So, I'll just focus on the natural aspects of my fighting talent, and take it from there; or, just listen to what MartialA...said. Good Luck!

  7. use playstation 3, that way you can not get arrested for hurting someone.

  8. Krav Maga is def. the best.  It will teach how to defend yourself from people wielding weapons and so forth.  It was developed by the israeli special forces.  Bad *** ****!

  9. Logic and reasoning usually work best, keep a cool head and don't p**s people off on purpose.

And for the people that won't listen to reason, a taser gun, stun gun, and pepper spray work well.

Also, get a cell phone and get your local police department on speed dial, you'll get a quicker response than calling 911, which usually goes to highway patrol in bigger cities.

As for what would happen if you got into a fight, pretty much anything, loss of life, lower quality of life due to disability, prison time.....etc...

  10. If you don't train on a regular basis than nothing you do will help you. Any of the stand up arts will suffice if you show enough dedication to train several hours a week. Other than that practice extreme trouble avoidance and politeness.

  11. u need a weapon , brass knuckles in your pants work

best , they wont know because it looks like your ding dong,

most of the time , alcohol is involved , do not consume as it

will only deterioate your response time, dont underestimate the knees (study muay thai) or your enemy as they might have backup , and last never , never back down , if your warn

them , and back down , u will be considered a p***y and will be destroyed u must follow up on your threat to engage.

  12. Krav Maga is the most practical for street use by far. If this is not available or not an option go with some sort of striking sport. Traditional martial arts are ok unless you are up against some one who has any clue what they are doing.  ID reccomend staying away from karate or kung fu sorts and look more towards Muay Thai, kickboxing, boxing...in that order.

  13. it depends on your body type and what your strengths are.

email me or go to modernma.com

  14. Muay Thai is for ring fighting not street fighting. Finding a real Muay Thai school is not easy in the USA

    Some street effective arts are:

    Kajukenbo

    Kempo Karate

    Wing Chun

    JKD

    Krav Maga

    SCARS

    CQC/CQB

    Defendo

    SAS combat systems

  15. MMA is a ground sport and not wise for the street.  Muay Thai is great, so is Serrada Escrima and Kung Fu San Soo.  Get a heavy Bag, and Speed bag and weights and train on those at home, but you need supervised training, from someone that knows how to make you into a fighter.  Learn to stay on your feet.

  16. Track and field...if you live in a shifty neighbourhood and expect to get into a fight...it will not be 1 on 1...you will prolly be fighting 5 people.   Gotta learn to run fast to get away from them..

That being said...Tai Chi or how ever its spelt would be the best....practice somethin 2000x slow and it gets implanted in your brain...after 5 or 6 years you will be able to fight multiple people at once....and you wont even have to think!

  17. Self defence is the art of not getting yourself in a bad situation

No mater what martial art you study the best defence is run

Only fight if you have to
