Street legal electric scooters- do i need a drivers license?

I'm 13, almost 14, and by parents are considering letting me drive a street legal electric scooter to my new high school (it isn't close enough to walk). I would just take back roads, but I'm not sure if its legal or if I'll need a license. Any good brands or specific links to motor scooter would be greatly appreciated.

You have to be at least 16 to operate a scooter on a public roadway.
