Question:

Stress/Nerves at the start or during a round?

What's some good strategies to calm nerves down before first teeing off & also when you're in a good position and want/hope your good round continues? Easy to say once you're in a winning position "just keep playing the game you've been playing" but as nerves set in that's easier said than done.

  1. Hi they always say the hardest holes in golf is the first 2 and the last 2, all that i can tell you is focus on the ball forget everything and focus on the ball - How many times did you play a bad shot and you said to yourself if i can just have it over - why because you didn't focus - Strongs

  2. I see this as a lack of confidence.  The way to be calm at any point in the round is to have practiced the shot you are about to make so many times that it is not a reason to be stressing out.

I also agree that a pre-shot routine is critical, but can only be on top of a swing that you are confident in.

  3. just try to block everyone out and focus on striking the ball well. make sure you go through your routine and keep your head.

  4. This is a very good question. At the time of playing it's very hard to stay calm but you got to try your best. Try taking big deep breaths and concentrate on nothing but what you are doing on the shot your about to take. Try to see positive images of that shot, trust me it will work. Good Luck.

    Have a good one...

  5. I don't think there's an easy answer for this, but the best advice I can offer is to just go through a routine before your round and also follow one within the round itself.  Golf is a game of repetition.  By following a good warmup routine (stretching, putting, etc...) you'll relax yourself and give yourself the confidence to swing freely on the first tee.  During the round, following a good pre-shot routine helps you focus from shot to shot which keeps your mind off of the overall round your having.

As you mentioned, it's a little easier said then done, however, with practice a good routine can really help you dial in your golf swing and help it hold up under pressure.
