  1. Wow good question.

There are many causes of stress. Alleviation will depend on identifying the cause and working on relaxing that tension specifically.

First, the fundamental cause of stress is the desire you have for high marks. This is alleviated by getting high marks regularly so that you build confidence that you can do it, so why get uptight about it...

Second, stress is caused by fear. To alleviate fear you have to know that you are doing what you need to do to get high marks. Once you are in the habit of 'doing it right' you will not be afraid of doing it wrong and getting a low mark.

Third, stress is caused by uncertainty. Not knowing what to do can be very nerve wracking. To alleviate uncertainty, you have to be well organized and stay ahead of the game. Falling behind, and having to play 'catch-up'  just adds to your overall stress.

Fourth, stress is caused by over work. Fatigue lowers your ability to do anything well, which adds to your stress at all levels. Handle this by using the proper study methods and using psychological aids (rewards) when you think you have done a good job on a study task. This means, use 30 minute blocks of time: 2 minutes to decide what it is you have to learn, 25 minutes to study about that, and 5 minutes to determine if you have in fact learned what you set out to learn. Decide it you go to the next step or go back over it again, then take a break. The length of the break gets longer after each study session. This is because your brain and body need to assimilate what you have learned and recover your energy. If you don't let your energy level recover, you will suffer from fatigue.

Fifth, fear is caused by loneliness. So, work with others to divide up your study load and teach each other about it. You know teachers learn more than students - right? Each subject area should have its own 'Study Group' so you don't get into a worthless chat session with your friends.

:-D Put it all together, and you will become an expert at whatever you want to learn. And anxiety will be a thing of the past. Good Luck!
