Strike the Moon ready to pile on the wins, as she starts next in Raven Run Stakes at Keeneland
The 3-year-old filly Strike the Moon, after a pretty good 2011 season so far, the filly and her connections are looking to make her stats stand out even more when she runs and expect to win the Grade 2, $250,000 Raven Run Stakes.
The race is held on 22 October, 2011, over at Keeneland’s synthetic surface, where she will face the likes of Groupie Doll, Hot Summer and maybe Turbulent Descent which adds up to a pretty ominous line up for the race.
The daughter of Malibu Moon, out of Star Kell by Star de Naskra, Strike the Moon has done exceptionally well this season.
She didn’t finish worse than second in first three races in 2011, a slight hiccup in her fourth start where she finished 4th, but the loss motivated her to bag her first win of the season in her next starts. With a lone win, 3 second place finishes and a 4th place finish out 5 starts this season is not bad at all.
Breaking her maiden last year, Strike the Moon ran a spirited race in the 6 furlong dash, the Miss Preakness Stakes at Pimlico on 20 May, 2011, as she finished second behind R Holiday Mood, who topped the distance in 1 minute and 12.12 seconds.
In the Jostle Stakes at Parx Racing, Strike the Moon finished second again, this time behind Bold Affair at about six and a half furlongs.
Strike the Moon made her debut in the grades stakes level race, in the Grade 2 Delaware Oaks and she turned in an amazing performance but got unlucky in the final strides as she weakened and gave way to St. John’s River.
The race was run over at 1 1/16 miles, first time for Strike he Moon, but over the same distance in her next start she wilted to finish 4th in the Grade 3 Monmouth Oaks. The top 3 for the race were Savvy Supreme the winner, Miss Valentine the runner up, and Withgreatpleasure finished third.
The 4th place finish was redeemed, as she bagged a seven furlong long race in emphatic style at Charles Town in the Charles Town Oaks.
