Strikeforce heavyweight division ends after two fights; scrapped fighters enter UFC – UFC/MMA News
The mixed martial art (MMA) promotion, Strikeforce, has decided to discontinue its heavyweight division. This has also let to the dissolution of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Championship, giving all Strikeforce fighters from the
weight class to move into other promotions. As the news spread a few weeks ago, there has been a major shuffling in fighters from Strikeforce into the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). At first there was some concern on the future of Strikeforce heavyweight
fighters but they got a second home in the form of UFC.
In March 2011, after UFC’s parent company Zuffa, LLC bought Strikeforce, it was evident that all heavyweight fighters will make way into the Las Vegas based MMA promotion headed by CEO Dana White. One of the major Strikeforce
fighters coming into the UFC is Alistair Overeem, who has been a dominant force in Strikeforce and other MMA promotions over the years. Apart from Overeem, Bryan Humes, Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva, Herschel Walker, Chad Griggs, Gabriel Salinas-Jones, Mike Kyle,
Fabricio Werdum, Shane del Rosario, Lavar Johnson, Devin Cole, Shawn "The Savage" Jordan and Josh Barnett are the other fighters entering the UFC fighting ring.
The UFC circuit will get all these new faces, as its heavyweight division will get additional fuel to make the weight class competitive. Some of these fighters have fought in UFC before but they have competed more in the Strikeforce.
It has been reported that Strikeforce heavyweight championship and the division itself will be functional only for two more fights. After that, there will be no such division in Strikeforce.
Strikeforce's parent company, Zuffa, LLC, has taken a productive step by not only purchasing Strikeforce but also giving UFC more fighters. One such fighter is Shane del Rosario who will make his UFC debut in 2012. He has been
unbeaten throughout his career and is expected to take the UFC competition to new heights. According to UFC and MMA fans, they are excited to see all these new faces in action which will add energy in fights and in future UFC events. Only time will tell whether
Strikeforce competitors are be able to make a name in UFC or not.
