Daniel Sturridge, the 22-year-old Chelsea striker, revealed he believed it was simpler to return to winning ways than anyone could imagine. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international urged his teammates to relax and work together to come out of the early season slump they had found themselves in once again.
Surprisingly, the Blues have gone on to lose three of their last five English Premier League fixtures and were recently dumped out of the Carling Cup quarter finals by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863.
Having lost the place in the semi-finals of the cup competition will have been disappointing, but further disappointment awaits if the Blues are thrown out of the European competition. The pressure will be on the Blues as they prepare for the clash against Valencia.
Sturridge said while speaking to reporters:
"The most important thing is for us to go out there and play our natural game
When we worry about the anxieties and the stresses, worry about what the fans and the pundits are thinking, that is the one thing that can send the team into a downward spiral.”
The young striker urged his teammates not to focus too much on the media and remain centred on their game. He felt it was important to ignore the past mistakes and the poor results and pay attention to the upcoming games.
He continued:
“So it is important not to worry. We lost a bit of momentum - we had some big games which we lost, but we were unfortunate in how we lost those games, because we played well. I just don't think we have had the luck.”
Despite losing to Liverpool in the Carling Cup, Sturridge was hopeful the 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers over the weekend could inspire the Blues to get better results in the upcoming fixtures. Before Valencia, Chelsea take on Newcastle United in the English Premier League, which will definitely prove to be tough match.
Sturridge concluded:
“Hopefully what happened against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 is a sign of things to come in the next few games.”
