Striker Fernando Torres to play for Liverpool, Manager Roy Hodgson
Englishman Roy Hodgson has at last put an end to months of theories and assumptions that the Spanish striker Fernando Torres will be leaving the Anfield. He has just recently stated that world class striker will be playing for Liverpool this season.
The Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has stated the Fernando Torres is “looking forward to playing for the club next season”. The manager expressed that the he is exuberant after the star forward decided to stay with them this season.
The 26 year old Torres had been speculated to make a move to another club all season with interest for him sparking up at Barcelona, Manchester City and Chelsea. The main reason that is perceived for the move is that the striker wanted to be a part of a string stable team that guarantees an appearance in the Champions League and has strong chances of winning it.
That became the strong reason of his interest in joining up with clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United, Barcelona, Chelsea and Inter Milan. The star has an outstanding performance at the Premier League with Liverpool having made 79 appearances in which he has scored 56 goals, while in the last season he had 32 appearances in which he acquired 22 goals. Among those statistics he scored 18 of those goals in 22 appearances at the Premier League.
This is the reason why teams are willing to pay as much as 70 million pounds for the coveted striker. Earlier the Liverpool manager had stated that the Torres will not be playing for Liverpool this season. The news came after Hodgson had given Torres a deadline to hand him in with his final answer if he would be staying with the club.
After the first answer Hodgson had reported that El Nino was not interested in playing for the Reds anymore and the reason for that Hodgson told was that the player had a beef with the club. The manager told that the striker in fact appreciated his management and decision at the club and had issues with his past at the club which brings the former Liverpool manager and present Inter Milan manager Rafael Benitez into question.
While talking to media at a press conference the manager stated that he was certain that the Spanish 2010 World Cup winning team’s member Torres will stay with Liverpool. The 62 year old manager mentioned that after his most recent talks with the player he is sure he will see him in Red and running for Anfield again.
The 62 year old manager stated, “As far as I know he is looking forward to coming back on Monday. He's enjoying the holiday which is a well deserved break, I don't think he's had one for three years”.
He also added, “He's spending a lot of time with his family, as far as I know he is keeping a very low profile, not speaking to anybody but he has told us that he is looking forward to Monday”.
The former Fulham manager that had a similar experience of leading a troubled Fulham side to a marvellous campaign expressed, “He is looking forward to getting back to work, looking forward to playing for Liverpool next season. That's what I know and all other reports I would suggest are erroneous”.
Many experts have stated that it in fact will be better for Torres to stay at Liverpool this season as the striker has had an injury marred year. He has faced injuries in the Premier League and stated after entering the World Cup in South Africa that he had entered the tournament while being injured and that was one of the reasons for his lack of performance the tournament.
Indeed at the World Cup Torres disappointed all when he was demoted from the starting line up to a substitute. In the ending moments of the final he even injured himself by tearing his thigh muscles and has been out of action for 3 weeks. Hodgson will indeed need all the men he can muster up as they face Arsenal in their opener and are set to make an example.
