Striker Mario Gomez insists Bayern Munich could have scored more goals- Bundesliga news
Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has insisted that his side could have scored more goals in the 4-0 win against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/1-FC-Nuremberg-c38162 on Saturday. He claimed that Bayern definitely had the chances to score even more goals but admitted
that the team had the UEFA Champions League clash with Napoli in mind.
Die Bayern won the match 4-0 courtesy a brace from Mario Gomez and goals from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bastian-Schweinsteiger-c7374 and Franck Ribery. The Munich giants were 3-0 up in the first-half and at half-time it looked that they would score three or four
more after the interval. But they were able to find the net only once after that but it was an impressive win overall.
Gomez admitted that the team could have attacked the ball more often in the second-half as they still had most of the possession. He admitted that the players had the Champions League game against Napoli in mind and were satisfied
with the score line so they did not exert more.
The German international added that the performance in the second-half would surely have left some of the fans disappointed but remained hopeful that they would understand the decision of the manager to substitute some of the key
players early in the second period.
“We could have attacked a bit more in the second half. We were dominant. Many of the players already had Wednesday's game (against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003) in their minds. The fans have got to forgive us for not attacking so aggressively after
going 3-0, 4-0 up because we have got to think of the coming weeks,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Nuremberg defender Philipp Wollscheid admitted that Bayern had dominated the match and breathed a sigh of relief on just conceding four. He added that there could have been even more goals from the home side
as they played sensational football.
“Bayern really tore us apart. They played as they liked and we can be happy that it did not get any worse for us,” he added.
Mario Gomez has scored 16 goals in 16 appearances for Bayern Munich this season.
