Striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicolas-Anelka-c27786 still thinking about future after rumours of Chelsea exit
Nicolas Anelka, the 32-year-old Chelsea striker, revealed he had not yet decided on his future after the Blues manager Andre Villas-Boas claimed he expected the Frenchman to leave the London club after his contract expired. However, Anelka insisted he had not yet thought about his future and said he did not give too much importance to the rumours linking him with a move away.
Anelka is currently amongst the senior players at the club and was expected to be offloaded this summer when Villas-Boas replaced Carlo Ancelotti. However, the Portuguese manager has retained almost all the players at the club and revealed that he did not want Anelka to leave but felt that the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international wanted to leave Stamford Bridge when he was out of contract in the summer.
Anelka said while speaking to reporters:
“I am linked everywhere but, when you are linked, it doesn't mean you want to leave.
I like Chelsea and first of all wanted to stay - that's why I am still here.”
The striker revealed that he was happy with Chelsea, which is why he had remained with the Blues for his fifth season. This is the longest Anelka has remained with a side, usually parting ways with clubs after three seasons or so. He revealed he was willing to wait until December to consider his future in the January transfer window or even until the summer.
He continued:
“I will see what happens in December and, if I am still here, I will see what happens in June.
I am happy here, I like the club, everyone here, and, after, I will see what happens. It is not only down to me.
I have been here almost four years now, and I am pleased with the way it has been. It could have been even better but I am still happy.”
Anelka joined Chelsea from Bolton Wanderers in the January transfer window of 2008 for a fee of £15 million and after a slow start at the London club, went on to establish himself as a regular in the squad. In his fifth season with the Blues, Anelka has made over 168 appearances in all competitions and has managed to score 59 goals.
