Striker says fighting spirit can help Celtic win title
Celtic striker Daryl Murphy claims that the fighting spirit displayed by the Scottish Premier League giants in their last-gasp win over St Mirren will prove crucial in their bid to reclaim the league title.
The Hoops had been heading for a goalless draw at St Mirren Park on Sunday 14 November when hitman Gary Hooper netted in injury time to allow Neil Lennon's men to return to Glasgow with all three points.
It was the second time this season that Hooper has popped up late in a game to net a winning goal, following his effort at Tannadice against Dundee United in a 2-1 win and while the late strike saw jubilant celebration among the away fans, Murphy says that
the players were even more delighted with the manner of the victory.
He told reporters that: "I think the timing of the goal shows the strength and team spirit just now. That could be a massive three points come the end of the season. We never give up and we put a lot of pressure on them towards the end. (Lennon) said, 'you
might score in the first, you might score in the 90th minute but you have to just keep going and believe'.
"(The ball) came in and Hoops hit it first time but it came off a defender. It went straight to his feet again and he stabbed it home. Cue the madness. I was first in, jumping on his back when he scored and got thumped in the eye by someone as there were arms
going everywhere but it was worth it. It was great for the players and for the supporters who were at the game in their numbers."
The win against St Mirren meant that Celtic were able to remain withing touching distance of defending champions Rangers. The Ibrox side are at the top of the league, but the Hoops are just a point behind.
