Strogen vs. progestin only birth control pills?

I would like to know the difference between estrogen and progestin only birth control pills?

  1. If you can do the estrogen ones, go for it. They give you a better window of time for being able to take the pill, and have it still be considered perfect use. With the estrogen pill, you can take it 6 hours before or 6 hours after your normal time and still be safe. With the progesterone only "mini pill" you only get an hour and a half before or after normal to be considered normal use. So, the mini pill is kind of a pain, and has much more human error.

    However, the Estrogen pill has some bad health side effects for older women, women with heart problems, and women who smoke. So, the mini pill is good for those women.

    I've used both, and I liked the security of the estrogen pill much better. I'd use that one unless you have any health issues that might prevent it. Good luck!
