Strong Pound?

How does the strong pound affect visitor numbers to the UK.

The US dollar is very weak right now.  So, when American tourists go to the UK and exchange their currency, they don't get much back.

we Americans can't visit you. we have to stick to closer destinations like home tourist spots, but really its not that the pound is getting stronger its the dollar that is getting weaker against all currencies, even the Australian Dollar is almost the same value! that hasn't

In the short term, chances are there will be little effect.  Of course, if the pound continues to be relatively more expensive compared to where it was, then the number of tourists will likely decrease as they find cheaper places to travel.

Of course, the impact on how visitors actually spend their money (and how much of it they spend) will be noticeable immediately.
