Strong Suit to now contest for the Burj Khalifa Challenge Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday
Richard Hannon’s Strong Suit would now be contesting for the Burj Khalifa Challenge Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday after he won at the Goodwood in July.
It is being predicted that there will be some tough level of competition against him as there are nearly thirteen other contenders striving for the same title. The other Richard Hannon entry is the three-year-old Irish King Torus, A P O’Brien’s three-year-old,
Empowering, and two entries from Saeed Bin Suroor, the five-year-old Delegator and the four-year-old Yaa Wayl.
Other entries include Tracy Collin’s Across The Rhine, W J Haggas’s Dafeef, D R C Elsworth’s Eton Rifles, R Haugen’s Giant Sandman, James Bernard’s Lechevalier Choisi, Henry Cecil’s Chachamaidee, C E Brittain’s Elshabakiya, John Gosden’s Maqaasid and Paul
Cole’s Rimth.
The connections told about Eton Rifles: "We also have the option of running him at the Curragh on Sunday and conditions might be more favourable for him there. We'll have a look at the entries for both races, see what the weather does, and go from there”.
"Giant Sandman heads to Newmarket. He is the champion here in Norway - we started running him in sprints this year and he won the Polar Cup in tremendous style”, said Haugen.
The three-year-old out of Rahy and Helwa has raced four times this year and has won two of them with Richard Hughes who has been riding the horse ever since the beginning.
The victory on 15th June was at the Ascot and when he raced last on 26th July, he won at Goodwood.
Strong Suit took keen hold, chased the leaders, went second four furlong out, upsides leaders and was travelling well over one furlong out, geared up and sped ahead inside the final furlong to get hold of the lead quite soon and finishing the race comfortably.
B W Hills’s Red Jazz was the runner-up in the race with Michael Hills onboard and it was Clive Cox’s Beacon Lodge who stood out to be the third.
The other Richard Hannon representation in the race was Libranno who ranked fourth and Saeed Bin Suroor’s Delegator whom Strong Suit will contest again this Saturday, finished the race in the end that day with Frankie Dettori onboard.
The field of course will not be a piece of cake but Strong Suit has countered challenge and talent before and also shares the team spirit with his jockey Richard Hughes which plays an instrumental role in winning the Burj Khalifa Challenge Stakes at Newmarket
on Saturday.
