Strong field confirmed for Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open
The Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, which is going to be played from May 3-5 at Archerfield, Scotland, is expected to stage a tough battle, as most of the big LET (Ladies European Tour) players have been confirmed for the tournament.
Tournament organizers have released the list of players confirmed for the event. The 70-player will field includes top LET players as well as celebrities from different professions.
Some of the players include the defending champion Catriona Matthew, Lynn Kenny, Lindsey Wright, Laura Davies, Melissa Reid, Kylie Walker and Carly Booth.
Analysts said that the field set for the LET event is quite strong, which means that the match is going to be tougher than the last edition.
They said that despite the presence of several non-professional players and celebrities, the tournament is still competitive, and will provide the spectators a chance to witness good golf.
Officials said that the tournament will be using a unique match format that will involve 54 holes. They said that the change in the format is being appreciated by players.
In addition to the defending champion Matthew, the 2008 winner Gwladys will also be putting her skills to test in the prestigious tournament.
Another competent player, Lee-Anne Pace of South Africa, has also confirmed her participation in the 54-hole tournament.
Pace topped the LET money list in the 2010 season - a feat that has helped her gain an edge over her rivals.
Speaking to the media about how she is going to fare against her rivals in the match, Matthew said that she is hopeful of doing her best, and will try to grab the coveted trophy yet again. She said that the last year's trophy is a source of inspiration for
her.
“I am particularly looking forward to defending my Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open title. Last year’s event was one of the highlights of my year as it is fantastic to be able to play in front of a home crowd at my home course, Archerfield,"
veteran Scottish said.
“Thanks to the support of Aberdeen Asset Management this year’s event is set to be the best yet”.
Matthew appears to be in a stronger position than other contenders, not only because of winning last year's title, but also because she knows the course well.
She lives just three miles from the course - something analysts said will help her on the course, as she is expected to receive plenty of support from the crowd.
