Strong field confirmed for ShopRite LPGA Classic
The ShopRite LPGA Classic is going to be played from June 1-3, at Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club, with a strong field, comprising most of the key LPGA contenders.
The $1.5 million tournament is expected to stage a tough battle, as the defending champion Brittany Lincicome is also in the field.
The current world number one Yani Tseng has also confirmed her participation for the event — something officials said will spice up the event.
Tseng has been going well since the start of the 2012 season. The Taiwanese star has racked up three events so far in the year.
The first event of the season — Honda LPGA Thailand — was special for Tseng, as she performed surprisingly well, grabbing a 1-stroke victory.
She then participated in the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup and cinched the second title of the 2012 season.
The last event she participated in was Kia Classic. She recorded a massive 6-stroke victory, beating her nearest rival Sun Young Yoo.
The current world number three Suzann Pettersen is also gearing up to participate in the much-hyped event. Suzann played well in Mobile Bay LPGA Classic.
Although she could not live up to her fans’ expectations, she still recorded a decent finish in a field that featured battle-hardened LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars.
Moreover, Stacy Lewis, who won the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic in an impressive style, will also be putting her skills to test at the Bay Course.
Another competent player confirmed for the 144-player field in Brittany Lincicome. Lincicome won the last edition of the tournament, and has vowed to defend her title.
Analysts said that the American star appears to be high spirits, as she has been training hard on the practice range. However, it remains to be seen how the defending champion is going to fare against LPGA titans.
Tim Erensen, who is Executive Director of ShopRite LPGA Classic, said that he is quite confident that the tournament will live up to the players’ and the spectators’ expectations.
He added that LPGA is not only promoting women’s golf across the globe, but is also involved in charities and advocates the welfare of the public.
“The LPGA is a global force in sports and philanthropy, and it is wonderful to have the eyes of the world focusing attention on the ShopRite LPGA Classic in South Jersey,” said Tim Erensen.
