Strong field expected at Mobile Bay LPGA Classic
The Mobile Bay LPGA Classic is going to be played in April at Magnolia Grove’s Crossings Course, with a solid roster featuring big names on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour.
The tournament is expected to stage an interesting battle among players such as Paula Creamer, the rising star Lexi Thompson, Christina Kim and Karrie Webb.
According to the details, the players have confirmed their commitment to participate in the tournament.
Moreover, the defending champion Maria Hjorth will also be present at Magnolia, trying to record yet another victory.
In addition to Maria Hjorth, Se Ri Pak and Natalie Gulbis have also committed to the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic.
The tournament will feature a 144-player field, offering a modest purse, but the spotlight will be on the defending champ and other prominent players on the LPGA.
Although the several players have committed so far, there are a number of empty spots waiting to be filled. For instance, the current world number one Yani Tseng has not confirmed her commitment to play the tournament.
When asked about her plans to play the Mobile Bay Classic, Tseng said she has not decided yet whether to return to Magnolia, Alabama, or not.
The tournament is slated to begin from April 26-29. Analysts have said that Tseng’s participation will spice up the much-hyped event, as the roster also contains Karrie Webb.
Karrie Webb is going to play the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup this week at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge’s Wildfire Golf Club, Phoenix.
Tseng is also eyeing the title at Phoenix. She said that the only thing she has on her mind right now is doing her best at Phoenix.
However, the field is not limited as Angela Stanford, Katherine Hull, veteran Catriona Matthew, Azahara Munoz, Cristie Kerr, Stacy Lewis, Brittany Lincicome, Suzann Pettersen and Morgan Pressel have also committed to play.
One player, who will be missed, is Michelle Wie. Wie is most likely to skip the tournament as she is having a layoff.
