Strong field set to light up the US C – Tennis News
This year’s edition of US Men’s Clay Court Championship features top eight seeds from the Top-40 players of the world making it the best crew so far to contest for the title. The tournament will be played from April 9-15 at River
Oaks Country Club. Three wildcards have also been granted to make it an enthralling and most-awaited event.
The list of top two seeds includes the likes of two Americans; the eighth ranked player Mardy Fish and the 2012 Indian Wells finalist, John Isner. The 15th ranked Spaniard, Feliciano Lopez, is the third seedwd player
who received the wildcard to play the tournament. The Argentine tennis ace, Juan Monaco, also received a wildcard and enters the tournament as the fourth seeded player.
Marcel Granollers of Spain, who is currently ranked 24 in the world, is the fifth seed along with the recent entrant into the list, the South African participant, Kevin Anderson. The 37th ranked Argentine, Carlos Berlocq,
and the 39th ranked Russian, Alex Bogomolov, completes the list of eight seeded players that will feature the tournament.
“We feel this is one of the strongest fields that has been assembled for the US Men’s Clay Court Championship in recent years and certainly since the event moved to River Oaks,” said the tournament director, Van Barry. “To have
this line up of seeded players sets the stage for what should be a great tournament week at River Oaks.”
The most in-form players amongst the list are Kevin Anderson and Juan Monaco. Both of them has won a title each in 2012 and will definitely test their luck for a second tile in this tournament. Vina del Mar was won by the Argentine
while the South African bagged the title at Delray Beach earlier this year.
Monaco is playing extremely well in the Sony Ericsson Open as well having defeated the top ranked player of this tournament, Mardy Fish, in the quarter-final to book a date with the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic. If
he manages to sneak another upset, he will be in with a chance to win the second title in Miami.
Defending champion, Ryan Sweeting, is also a part of the field and he will look to hold his title but it will be very difficult considering the squad that he is up against. Other trophy holders that are part of the main round draw
includes Mardy Fish (2006), Ivo Karlovic (2007) and Marcel Granollers (2008).
