Strong willed Lee Chong Wei has regained 80 percent confidence, says Singles coach Tey Seu Bock
Tey Seu Bock, Malaysia’s national coach of Singles says that World Number One Lee Chong Wei is a strong willed shuttler and has gained his 80 percent confidence back, especially after winning the title at the 2011 French Open Super Series on Sunday, October
30, in Paris.
Chong Wei lost his confidence after losing the final contest to China’s Lin Dan in the 2011 World Championships in August at London. He was disappointed for his loss as he was the favourite to win the title and become the first Malaysian to become a World
Champion. However, the Chinese spoiled the party of the Malaysian by winning the match.
Since then, Chong Wei failed to put hundred percent focus on the game which resulted in two back-to-back defeats from the hands of Chen Long of China. He lost two finals to Chinese in a period of one month.
The World Number One lost the final of Japan Open super Series in the last week of September and also lost the title match of Denmark Open Premier Super Series, two weeks ago.
Nevertheless, Chong Wei, who is known for his fighting spirit, hard work and dedication, proved all these characteristics by playing wonderful badminton and winning the Men’s Singles title in the French Open Super Series, which ended on Sunday, at Paris,
France. Chong Wei took revenge from Long by beating him in the semi-final showdown.
Seu Bock said, “His most significant win was over Chen Long (in the semi-finals). He is certainly a strong-willed player. He lost a lot of energy against Chen Long but yet, today, he was able to return to court and play his game against Tago.”
He further added, “I think his confidence is almost 80% back. He has been struggling to get his game going after the defeat at the world meet. It is not easy to reach the final of every tournament. That could be mentally tiring but he has defied all the
odds and I have nothing but respect for him.”
Now, Chong Wei’s main target is to continue his winning run win the Men’s Singles title at the 2012 Olympic Games.
