Strong wind will be an important factor at Hambantota, believes MS Dhoni – Cricket News Update
On the eve of the first match of the One Day International (ODI) series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, the Indian captain, believes that strong wind in the region will play an important role in the match, calling for the visitors
to adjust accordingly.
Dhoni and company are all set to begin the tour today at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Sooriyawewa, Hambantota, which possesses a massive outfield, likely to test the fitness of the Indian players, who are rusty after a long break
from international sport.
Talking about the fixture, after a hard training session at the stadium, the cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jharkhand-c800 expressed that the strong breeze in the ground makes it quite different to the other venues of the world.
The captain feels that the fans may not witness too many boundaries in the match but running between the wickets will be the key, keeping the fielders on their toes all the time.
Dhoni said, "It was quite windy out here. It can be a factor. Even the fielders because it is a very big field and in the way you need to be positioned so that the batsmen don't push for the twos and the threes, which is quite common in the shorter formats
nowadays."
The 31-year-old further added that the fieldsmen will have to make certain adjustments by moving from one side of the pitch to the other because the ball is likely to travel faster in one direction of the ground due to the wind.
"What will be a big concern is where you stand. If you move to some other part of the field, then you have to reposition yourself as to whether you need to be seven yards inside or seven yards behind because it is a very strong wind," he added.
Sri Lanka played a two-match T20 series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 at the same venue last month, leveling the battle 1-1. The conditions were heavily in favour of the seam bowlers, run-scoring being extremely hard for both the sides. It remains to be seen whether
the Indian batsmen are able to adjust to the unfamiliar conditions or not.
