Struggling Colorado Avalanche wins 4-3 against the St. Louis Blues
Another one of Tuesday’s games was the St. Louis Blues playing host to the Colorado Avalanche at the Scottrade Centre. Both the teams are struggling in the Western Conference as they are 13th and 14th in the league respectively. However,
a win this time would surely boost them a lot and help them as they still have an outside chance of making it into the play-off cut.
The scores were level on 2-2 at the end of the second period but the final period saw the Avalanche scoring twice to win the game 4-3 in the end with the Blues scoring a goal as well. Paul Stastny, centre of the Avalanche was named the star of the game as
he scored a goal and made two assists.
Both teams had nothing to lose which resulted in both teams attacking as soon as the puck was dropped on ice. The Avalanche didn’t care whether they were playing away and continued with the attacking mentality.
They were rewarded almost immediately as they scored through David Jones through a simple tip in shot in the 4th minute to get into the lead. Even after the goal, both teams didn’t take their foot off the gas and continued to pile.
Though the Blues could have easily levelled the scores but it was the Avalanche who scored in the 11th minute to double their advantage, Milan Hejduk scored the goal during power play from another superb tip in shot. The 14th minute
saw the Blues construct a brilliant play which ended with Patrik Berglund scoring from a tip in shot to trail by a single goal.
The Blues came up with quite a few attacks but failed to score any further goal as the period ended with the Avalanche leading 2-1 as the period ended. During the course of the period, the Avalanche made 12 goal attempts while the Blues made 15 goal attempts.
The second period saw the teams a little reluctant to attack and concentrated on the defence. Though there were some open spaces for them teams but the fear of the other team counter attacking resulted in the teams reluctant to utilize the space.
However, the Blues were able to level the scores as they scored in the 18th minute with Chris Stewart scoring during power play. The period ended with the scores level on 2-2 with the Blues making 12 goal attempts in the period while the Avalanche
made 6 goal attempts.
The stage was all set for a very entertaining and exciting final period the saw the Blues dominate the game when it came to creating chance. Unfortunately, they weren’t as productive as the Avalanche which cost them the game in the end.
The Avalanche scored in the 15th minute to get into the lead with Erik Johnson scoring the goal through a well place flick shot. The Avalanche continued to attack and scored once again in the 18th minute through Paul Stastny from a
brilliant backhand shot. Although the Blues scored in the same minute through Andy McDonald but they didn’t score any further goals.
In the end, it was the Avalanche who won the game 4-3. The final 20 minutes of play saw the Avalanche making 9 goal attempts while the Blues made 18 goal attempts.
