Struggling New York Jets face mighty Houston Texans in Week 5 – NFL Preview
Houston Texans are looking set to continue their best-ever start to the season as they take on woeful New York Jets in Week 5 game on Monday, October 08, 2012, at MetLife Stadium East Rutherford, NJ.
New York Jets (2-2) are struggling to cope up with injuries to their top players. They have lost their two most important players in both teams within a span of nine days.
Wide receiver Santonio Holmes is out for the rest of the season with a lisfranc injury, while cornerback Darrelle Revis is put on season-ending injury list after tearing Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).
Texans (4-0) have finally achieved a strong game on both sides of the field this season. Although the offence has been superb as usual, the most surprising reason behind the team’s success this season is the outstanding performance of the defence.
The defensive dominance is headed by the Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, who has been a revelation in the second year in the league.
Watt is currently standing with 7.5 sacks in four games as compared to 5.5 sacks overall in his rookie season. He has become the first player in the franchise history to get a sack in four back-to-back games.
Texans head coach Gary Kubiak is very happy with the way both of his teams have played this season. Kubiak said:
"They're feeding off each other. They're playing very hard. The best thing we've done as a team is we've protected the ball and taken it away. Those two things together win games in this league."
The Texans offence is going into Week 5 with the average of 31.5 points per game. Quarterback Matt Schaub has been the most consistent player of the team, completing 83 out of 124 passes for 953 yards and seven touchdowns.
Running back Arian Foster is on top of the league for most carries with 103. He has stood up to the occasion in absence of running back Ben Tate, who remains injured.
Jets have been lingering with pains of their offensive woes as their starting quarterback Mark Sanchez has failed to give good output.
In their last game, Jets offence failed to score a single point, losing the game 0-34 against San Francisco 49ers.
Even with all the chants by fans and media for making backup Tim Tebow starter, Jets head coach Rex Ryan insists that Sanchez is the guy who will take the Jets forward.
"I just know in my heart, right now, that this is not the time. I think Tim is an outstanding player, and I think Mark is. Right now, I think Mark gives us our best opportunity to win."
Even though Jets have the home-field advantage, they will have a gigantic task to stop Texans who are looking way ahead of time in American Football Conference (AFC) South.
