Struggling Texas Rangers still looking for confidence building run: MLB news
The Texas Rangers are on the verge of descending into a slump. They ended up losing their recent series against the Toronto Blue Jays by a 3-1 score line on Thursday. Their hitting was abysmal and their defence has been troubling for Manager Ron Washington
for some time now. With an injury list containing some of the best players of the squad, things can get frustrating. The latest disappointment for the Rangers came in the form of a 5-2 defeat against Toronto.
The Blue Jays managed a three run inning in the ninth to put their side on top of the Rangers by the end of the encounter. While Alexi Ogando pitched well for the hosts at the Rangers Ballpark, his partners in the bullpen struggled. Pedro Strop pitched a
perfect eighth inning to keep the score tied at 2-2.
The situation however, changed when the Rangers' 40-year-old reliever Darren Oliver, came in to close. With Neftali Feliz out, it was the veteran who stepped in to assist Ron Washington in his daunting task to seal the game for the club. However, he was
beaten, as Corey Patterson bunted and led the team to three runs.
The lack of runs will be a concern for the Rangers, but Brandon Morrow pitched superbly well for Toronto to restrict their opponents. However, there is a feeling that the offence is slumping, and that has second baseman Ian Kinsler concerned.
Kinsler told reporters, "We're struggling right now to build innings. We're a way better offensive team than we're showing, and we need to get better. ... We're thin right now in the bullpen, and we need to get some runs early and help our pitchers."
For Texas Manager Ron Washington it was yet another lesson at the end of the day.
Washington said, "You always want your offence to pick it up. But you've got to play the type of game that's presented to you. And today was that type of game. Our bullpen is what it is, and we're not going to cry about it. We're just going to keep going
out there battling and doing whatever it takes."
With a 15–10 record in the American League West, it should only be a matter of time before the Texans hit top form.
