Struggling Tseng cuts ties with bagman as she seeks to end slump
Current world number one Yani Tseng, who kicked off the 2012 season in an impressive style and racked up three LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) titles, has reportedly ended partnership with her caddie Jason Hamilton.
Tseng has been having trouble finding form for the last couple of weeks, as she has shown worse-than-expected performance in the last three tournaments.
However, the news of her parting ways with her bagman has not come as a big shock to many, as the top-ranked prodigy had already been considering the decision for months.
Tseng decided to let Hamilton go after showing a grim performance at the US Women’s Open 2012, held at Blackwolf Run, Kohler, last Sunday.
The Taiwanese star was regarded as the strongest contender for the third major tournament of the current season, and she herself had vowed to surprise her fans this time.
Despite being in a stronger position than most of the rivals in the roster, Tseng faltered at Kohler and disappointed her golf crazy fans. She finished tied for the 50th position on the leaderboard — something analysts said put a deep dent in her credibility.
Now that the golfing sensation has cut ties with Hamilton, it has become increasingly crucial for her to maintain her upper hand in the world rankings.
So far, Tseng has held the whip hand, having stood firm at the top spot in the Women’s World Golf Rankings. However, analysts said that it will not be easy for the famed LPGA star to fend off resistance from other contenders, as most of the players have already improved their rankings lately.
Despite performing below average in the last three LPGA tournaments and showing poor putting skills, Tseng clearly enjoys a substantial lead against her nearest rivals in terms of total and average points.
Analysts said that the star golfer is hoping to put an end to her slump. "Everything I'm thinking, what time to go work out, what time I should go to the golf course, or what can I improve today. Everything's about golf," Tseng said.
"Before, I always keep having fun, go out, go sightseeing, and see how beautiful the city [is], but not the week in Melbourne. So that's kind of not normal for me".
