Stuart Appleby looks to his regain his old form
There was a time when Stuart Appleby was one of the most consistent performers on the tour. However, since the 2010 Greenbrier Classic, he has been out of form.
This season, Appleby has featured in 14 tournaments, out of which he has managed a cut in 6 and has only 2 top-25 finishes. This is not a performance one would be expecting from a guy who has a ranking of 8.
Two years ago, Stuart shot 59 at the Greenbrier Classic and suddenly after that, he faltered miserably. He started having problems with his golf swing and soon after that, he was nowhere to be seen.
Stuart has been known for his back injuries, which clearly affect his swing.
Stuart will be looking to change things around this week. He will, once again, make an appearance at the Greenbrier Classic.
Recently, he has been doing well. At the Travelers Championship he finished at T18. After the Travelers, Appleby was pretty confident about his game.
"Body and mind is a lot better, and if you get those two right, you play better golf," Appleby said at the Travelers.
After the Honda Classic he said, “Nice to play well, nice to be thinking well and feel like there's some zip in my game, you know, all parts of my game”.
Lately, Stuart was having a problem on the greens. He was missing many puts. Consequently, then returned to using his old putter, which had some positive effects on his game.
“I went back to the putter I had with the 59, and I tried to keep the game as simple as it can be,” said Appleby after the Travelers Championship.
Many people on the tour believe that shooting 59 is a curse, there have been other players who had shot 59 and then they simply could not win in the next tournaments. One such example is of Beck, who could win only once after his 59 at Las Vegas.
However, for some, shooting 59 has been a blessing, Duval won the 1999 Bob Hope Classic. He shot a 59 in the tournament and after that, he went in to unsettle Tiger Woods at the Players Championship.
