Stuart Bingham barely survives Mark Davis fight in semi-final of 2012 Wuxi Classic
Winner of the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open from England, Stuart Bingham played impressively against the World Number one and the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event defending champion, Mark Selby by the score line of 5-4 in the quarter-final clash. Bingham
booked his place in the semi-final stage of the tournament against compatriot Mark Davis.
The semi-final clash between Bingham and Davis was yet another terrific encounter at the Wuxi Sports Center arena in Wuxi, China. Both potters were competitive from the start of the game and dragged the match into a decider frame where the 2011 Australian
Goldfields Open winner, Bingham was able to hit the victory by the score line of 6-5.
In his post match interview, Bingham said to World Snooker, “I was ready to get on the flight to Thailand. I can't believe how I played. Until 4-0 up I didn't let him see a ball and then tide totally changed and he was getting a few little flicks here and
there. I started missing a few and he pulled out a great clearance to go 4-4.”
The Englishman added, “Obviously the momentum was definitely with him. He had a couple of chances to win 6-4 but getting to your first final, or getting to any final, your nerves start to show a bit.”
The opening session of the match was totally dominated by Bingham who cruised to a 4-0 lead after triumphing over Davis in the first four scrappy frames. The Pink Ribbon Pro-am Snooker event winner fired some tremendous breaks of 79, 60 and 64 to lead the
match.
Davis bounced back brilliantly in the second session of the match and grabbing four frames consecutively, he moved from frames up at 4-4. Before Bingham could do more damage, Davis played impressively in the ninth frame to grab the lead again with 4-5. Bingham
came back strong and claimed the 10th frame to pull level at 5-5 and push the match into the decider frame.
Both potters were outstanding in the final frame but Bingham finally prevailed to claim the match victory and book his place in the final encounter of the tournament.
