Stuart Bingham beats Judd Trump 5-1 to set up John Higgins clash – 2011 Shanghai Master tournament
The Binginator, Stuart Bingham, has cruised into the second round as he defeated Crucible finalist Judd Trump by a frame score of 5-1 in a best-of-nine frames opening round match of the 2011 Bank of Communication on Wednesday.
This event is currently being staged at the Shanghai Grand Stage in Shanghai, China.
Bingham, who currently holds the 12th spot in the world rankings, started off in a straight forward fashion with a classy break of 129 in the opening frame to draw the first blood 1-0. The Bristolian Ace, Trump, who currently
holds the 10th spot in the world rankings, had a good chance in the second frame but he only managed a break of 68 and Bingham clinched the frame even upon when he needed snookers in it.
The third frame was over within a blink of an eye as Bingham again fired in a carving break of 112 put him 3-0 up.
The fourth frame was pretty dramatic as Trump attempted a 147 break in it but unfortunately, he went out of position after potting 12 reds with 12 blacks. However, it helped him in reducing the deficit to 3-1.
Bingham showed no reeling effects and won the following two frames in a row 48 and 55 to seal an impressive 5-1 win.
A delighted Stuart, who recently won his first ranking tournament in Australia, afterwards shared his feelings with the media and said if he plays as good as he played in Australia he does not see a reason why he cannot win.
Stuart said, “I haven't been playing well in practice, but once I got on the match table I felt the same as I did in Australia and managed to show that form again. If I play as well as I did in Australia I can do it. I've been playing well for 18 months
now and I just want to keep it going.”
Trump on the other hand was very disappointed on his early exit from the tournament. He stated his second frame loss was the turning point of the match.
Trump said, “I'm really disappointed to go out early in this one, especially having won the China Open in Beijing last season. The second frame was a big turning point, if I'd won that it might have been different.”
Stuart Bingham will now face the reigning world champion John Higgins in the next round.
