Stuart Bingham disheartened after losing to Matthew Selt in Round 1: 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
Despite performing brilliantly in his opening round match of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament, the defending champion, Stuart Bingham was not able to unsettle his opponent, Matthew Selt and tumbled down by the score line of 5-4 at the
Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria, Australia.
The Englishman was confident of winning the game and starting his run to retain his title but it all went in vain when Selt swept the table in the final frame.
Bingham made huge progress in the recently finished 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event and made his way into the final encounter where he lost to Ricky Walden. However, despite his loss in the final, Bingham was feeling confident of defending his title at the
Bendigo Stadium arena. He entered the venue in the hopes of putting in a good performance and advancing in the tournament.
After the loss at the hands of Selt, Bingham was feeling very disappointed and disheartened because he did not want a defeat at this time of the season when he had such a superb start of his campaign.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Bingham said, “It just didn't happen today. It was a bit scrappy I thought. The table played really well, the same as last year, it may be caught me out a bit as in Thailand last week the tables were slower.
It just wasn't meant to be.”
The English potter added, “I'm very disappointed to lose any match. I came through Wuxi with a load of deciders and yet I've lost one here. But I'm disappointed that I didn't put in a better performance, I had a massive chance to win 5-3, I was in the balls
and made 25 and the table was so quick I just ran out of position.”
As expected, the first session of the game was quite tussling as both potters went neck-and-neck in order to grab early lead but it finished on 2-2 level. The second session of the game presented the same picture and the pair was 4-4 at the end of fifth
frame.
The clash had entered the decisive frame where the situation was troubling for both cuemen. However, Selt dominated in the final frame and hit the match victory by 5-4.
