Stuart Bingham happy with his performance in PTC Event 1 despite losing to Ronnie O’Sullivan
England’s Stuart Bingham started the new snooker season with hopes of winning the Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 1 title, but unfortunately, Ronnie O’Sullivan had to end them. The Rocket defeated Bingham in the quarterfinal clash of PTC Event 1 on
Wednesday, June 22 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. However, despite losing out in the quarterfinals, the 35-year-old is quite happy with his performance in the competition.
The Essex potter, Bingham had high aims in the 2011-12 Snooker Season and was hoping to start the season on a high. Up until his quarterfinal showing at the PTC Event 1, Bingham defeated the likes of Andrew Milliard 4-0, Jamie Burnett 4-0, Mark Davis 4-3
and Stephen Maguire 4-3.
The Binginator faced his ultimate barrier, Ronnie O’Sullivan, in his quarter-final clash. The former three-time World Snooker Champion, O’Sullivan certainly gave a tough time to the Bingham and ousted him 4-2 in the end.
While speaking to the local media after the event, Bingham said, “I was playing in Thailand last week, and I was not match fit when I arrived in Sheffield. But I made 115 in the deciding frame with Davis, and came from 66 down in the decider to beat Maguire,
which was encouraging. And I had my chances against Ronnie, but that is how it goes against him.”
He added, “Overall I’m happy with how I did here, and now I’m ready to really get stuck into this season.”
The Englishman was happy with his form during the Players Tour Championship and hopes to do better in the coming events. Right now, his target must be to qualify for the Australian Goldfields Open 2011 after clearing his qualifying session, which starts
from June 30 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
The Australian Goldfields Open 2011 will commence from July 18 to 24 at Bendigo Stadium in Victoria. The event is the very first major ranking event being held in Australia and will surely help to enhance the game’s popularity around the world.
