Stuart Bingham hits quarter-final stage beating Ken Doherty in Round 2: 2012 Wuxi Classic
Audience at the Wuxi Sports Center arena in Wuxi, China witnessed another close match of the 2012 Wuxi Classic between the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open winner Stuart Bingham and the former World Snooker Champion Ken Doherty. Bingham was able to claim
the victory by the score line of 5-4. The clash went the way it was expected with both potters proceeding competitively until the game was dragged into the decider frame.
Both Bingham and Doherty kept their tremendous game intact and made their way into the second round of the event beating Peter Ebdon and Shaun Murphy in the opening round. Bingham and Doherty were level by 2-2 at the end of the first session with the help
of some tremendous snooker. The second session continued the same way but in the decisive frame, Bingham took the advantage and ousted Doherty.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Doherty said, “It was a good match, he made a couple of centuries but I played pretty well. I went 4-3 up, didn't really get a chance in the last, he made 70-odd to make it 4-4.”
The former champ added, “It's disappointing to lose, it would have been nice to keep the run going but I have to be pleased with the way I've been playing this week. Hopefully I can keep it going now for the next couple of tournaments with the Six Reds next
week and the next one in Australia.”
The Irishman took the first frame firing a fine clearance of 50 points and grabbed early lead of one frame. Bingham dominated the table in the next two frames and reached 2-1 firing two cracking knocks of 143 and 124. The next frame was won by Doherty to
pull level at 2-2.
At the end of seventh frame, the Irishman was leading the game by 4-3 but an impressive come back from Bingham took the scores to 4-4. Doherty failed to claim the final frame as Bingham fired a tremendous break to hit the last set and win the contest by
5-4.
Bingham has now successfully made his way into the quarter-final stage of the tournament where he will be facing the World Number one and Wuxi Classic defending champion, compatriot Mark Selby.
