Stuart Bingham leads Peter Ebdon, 5-4, in first session – 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship
Stuart Bingham finished the first session of his match with a 5-4 lead over the former world champion, Peter Ebdon, in the first round of the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship, which
is being held at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.
It was a well fought battle as of yet between both players, who showcased classy breaks of 93, 77, 50, 79 and 55 for the audience. The overall score-line of the first session between both
players was 14-95, 82-44, 105-13, 24-74, 64-44, 85-33, 24-101, 0-79 and 1-88.
Bingham started off well, as he dominated the first frame with quick breaks of 35 and 41 to draw the first blood 1-0. He also was the first one to be among the balls in the second frame
but he missed a tricky red in the end which gave Ebdon a gifted chance to level the things by 1-1.
A similar story came up in the third frame, as the thirty-four-year-old, Bingham, missed an easy black this time and was punished from his opponent who fired up the match-highest break
of 93 to lead him by 1-2. Though he levelled the things by winning the scrappy fourth after a bout of safety play, he lost the fifth again and the following sixth frame in the similar manner to trail Ebdon by 2-4.
However, he showed sign of great temperament to level the scores once again by knocking in carving breaks of 50 and 79 in the seventh and the eighth frame respectively. In the ninth frame
a few chances were exchanged before the Binginator again mopped a frame-winning break of 55 to end his first session with a one frame lead 5-4.
Former world champion and the BBC commentator, Terry Griffiths, told the media that it is a big moment for Stuart Bingham.
"He has been trying to break into the top 16 for some time now, and he has come close on a number of occasions”, said Griffiths.
Bingham will meet the Chinese top cueist, Ding Junhui, in the next round of this year’s World Championship, provided if he maintains the lead and wins the next round.
