Stuart Bingham sees off Mark Selby in quarter-final of 2012 Wuxi Classic – Snooker Update
Competitions in the 2012 Wuxi Classic has been outstanding at the Wuxi Sports Center arena in Wuxi, China where emerging potters have made a couple of major upsets during their Wuxi Classic run. Eight top guns of the event breezed into the quarter-final
stage of the tournament. In a recent quarter-final clash between Stuart Bingham and Mark Selby, Bingham was victorious by the score line of 5-4.
Winner of the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open, Bingham performed stunningly in the 2012 Wuxi Classic from the very first round and made his way successfully into the quarter-final round of the event. He was up against the World Number one and the Wuxi Classic
defending champion, compatriot Mark Selby and had a tussling encounter to book his semi-final spot.
While speaking to World Snooker after his triumph over Selby, Bingham said, “Again it was a great match today with Mark. I didn't think he played that well, he's obviously just started the season so he's a bit rusty. But I've come through again 5-4. I had
a nice break in the last but should've won 5-2, I had the chance but all credit to Mark, he kept coming back. It's great to get to a semi-final again.”
The Englishman added, “At 4-2 I had the chance and missed it, and then he's nicked it in the end, and then he's played a good frame to go 4-4.”
Bingham started the game well with a tremendous run to gain an early lead of 3-1 over Selby. The Jester from Leicester Selby rallied a bit late in the second session and claimed three consecutive frames to pull level at 4-4 to drag the game into a decider
frame where Bingham triumphed over the Englishman to win the game 5-4.
Bingham will now be facing the Englishman, Mark Davis who has performed impressively in the tournament making his way into the semi-final spot. The semi-final clash is definitely going to be another tough game because both potters are in good shape. It will
be exciting to see both potters battle it out and put in a tremendous performance to advance in the tournament.
