Stuart Broad and Alastair Cook to become captains of the English T20 and ODI squads
Alastair Cook and Stuart Broad are likely to step up today as captains of the English One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 Intertnaional (T20I) squads respectively.
Cook will replace Andrew Strauss while Broad is to take over from Paul Collingwood. The English will now be having a different Captain for all three formats of the game.
As per the Daily Telegraph, an authentic English newspaper, the new positions of the two players will be formally announced today by the England Cricket Board (ECB).
Strauss, who has been leading the side for last three years, wants to quit the ODI captaincy and put all his focus on Test leadership. During the three years of his rein, Strauss has managed to bring home a fair share of victories. Under him, the English claimed the 2010 Ashes and managed to reach the quarter-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
On the other hand, Collingwood, the former ODI and current T20 captain, has been out of form since leading England to the World Twenty20 trophy last year. During the Ashes, the Commonwealth Bank ODI series and the World Cup 2011, he could not give any notable performances.
The 26-year-old Cook is an opening batsman possessing valuable County and International Cricket experience. He has played for Bedfordshire, England Lions, England Under-19, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783, Marylebone Cricket Club and the England national team.
Cook earlier captained the U-19 team in the 2004 World Cup and the national team during the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 tour of 2010.
The 24-year-old Broad has been a quality pacer for the English. His career is polished with both County and International Cricket. He has been an integral part of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826 apart from being the bowling star of England.
The decision of new appointments has been made in the wake of Andy Flowers renewed contract.
