Stuart Broad joins the Pre-Ashes verbal onslaught
As each and every English and Australian player is heating up the pre-Ashes verbal onslaught, it was only fair to give the young boys a chance to check how good they are when it comes to choosing their battle of words.
The latest warrior to come forward is the baby faced fast bowler Stuart Broad. Broad is almost certain that this time the relatively decent Australian side will not be able to settle the spikes of their shoes on the pitch for too
long in front of the English bowling, which seems to be on a rampage for the last eighteen months.
Broad said that it has been a tough summer, but when he looks back at the cricket side of things, it has been one of the most enjoyable seasons with the English team. The lanky bowler feels that the controversies that surrounded
the spot-fixing tainted series with Pakistan, has shown that the English cricketers are mentally strong enough to focus on their game, even when the off-field controversies are causing headlines.
The English players, during the series with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 this summer, kept their focus on the game at hand, and were not seen worried about the off-field fiasco when they were playing against the green caps.
Broad remembers the tension he and his team faced when the Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 levelled allegations against the English side for taking bribes in the ODI series; however, the English side went on to win the
final match to clinch the series from Pakistan.
Similarly, the Ashes is going to be no different as off-field controversies are already in the air. Players from each side are attacking the opponents via verbal spats, sensationalizing the Ashes before even the first ball has
been delivered.
After playing under the pressure of allegations Broad is pretty confident that they can demolish the Australians, even with the entire off-field buzz going on before and during the Ashes in Australia this year.
Another reason for Broad to be optimistic is the very fact that his father was the hero of the 1986-87 series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, where he scored three centuries in the series. Broad recalls that he was only a few months old when England
last won the Ashes in Australia, and it is high time that England finally defeat the Australians in their own backyard.
Broad unleashed havoc on the Aussies last summer with his outstanding five wicket haul at the Oval Test which ultimately lead to England’s 197-run victory over the Aussies. At this point in time, it is good for Broad to remember
his feats of the past and capitalize on them in the upcoming Ashes series. This is perhaps a great way of playing mind games by the young bowler; by mentioning that he has cracked the mighty Australian batting before, he will probably give Ricky Ponting’s
boys something to ponder on for a while.
It is almost a month to go before the teams face off each other, but the hype has already been built and there seems to be no stopping to it. Punches were clearly thrown at the former Australian coach John Buchanan by the English
middle order batsman Kevin Pietersen, after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Buchanan-c48808 called Pietersen a weak link in the English side, flaring up the batsman into reacting and calling Buchanan “a nobody”.
No matter who says what, the one thing that is quite obvious is that the English team is not relying on any single player, every player has been chipping in for the last 18 months, and every player selected for the Ashes is ready
to give the Aussies the beating of a life time.
