Stuart Broad out of Nagpur Test – Cricket News Update
Ace England pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harold-William-Stephenson-c61707 Finn is a doubtful starter for the series decider after missing the mandatory pre-match practice session on Wednesday due to a back niggle.
Broad, who sat out the third Test in Kolkata last week in favour of fit-again Finn, suffered from a recurring heel injury during training at the VCA Stadium on Tuesday. The Nottingham paceman had first picked up the injury during a tour match in Mumbai last month and was in fear of missing out the series opener in Ahmedabad.
After suffering more discomfort during a training session yesterday, the 26-year-old Nottingham speedster was sent for a second scan, which revealed an injury like the one Broad faced in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820, five weeks ago.
The England skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, still remains in contention for the two-match T20 series against the Men in Blue later this month.
"Stuart is out of this Test match," the visiting skipper said at the customary match-eve media interaction today. "His scan has showed a bruised heel, and we'll assess him over the next day or so to see what happens with the Twenty20. We'll know a bit more when it settles down," added Cook.
Broad has been struggling for form since picking up the injury, returning wicketless in both the Tests he has played on the tour thus far. The loss of form cost him the Kolkata Test, which the tourists won by seven wickets to take an unassailable 2-1 lead in the series. Cook, however, backed the right-arm medium pacer to regain his lost form soon.
"It's the nature of sport, isn't it? Some people have good tours, and some people don't," said Cook. "Unfortunately, more down to niggles and illnesses, Broady hasn't quite managed to get into the tour."
"It's frustrating for him, and disappointing for us as a side. But we all know the class of Broady, and he'll be back," he added further.
