England’s pace machine, Stuart Broad, acknowledged the efforts which Poms' head coach Andy Flower and Test captain, Andrew Strauss, have put in the team to see them climb to the summit of International Cricket Council's (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) Test
rankings, dethroning India.
Broad, in paying tribute to Flower and Strauss, said that they both deserve most of the credit as they have contributed a lot to the team’s preparation, which may not be seen by many as only the players on the field get the spotlight.
The lanky bowler said, “A huge amount of credit for this has to go to Flower and Andrew Strauss. It is the players who step on the field and have to be judged but the amount of preparation and hard work that has gone into this
achievement is phenomenal.”
Broad was uncertain about his place in Poms' playing XI before the start of the npower series. He was struggling with the ball as Sri Lankan batsmen took him apart, during their tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
Flower and Strauss kept their faith in the 25-year-old Broad, despite the media bashing his inclusion in the side. They even kept him in the playing XI for the Lord’s Test.
The right-arm bowler didn’t let them regret their decision, as he found his lost form by claiming seven wickets in that game and playing a valuable knock of 74 runs in second innings. Broad continued his impressive form and now
is the leading wicket-taker of the series with a tally of 21 wickets.
He said, “I think I came close to being dropped before the first Test. When Flower told me I was playing at Lord's I almost felt a sense of release because I felt I was owed a break after injury and not picking up the wickets I
felt my bowling deserved. Now I have taken 21 wickets in this series and scored a few runs so I hope I have repaid that faith that was shown me.”
England reached the top of the table on Saturday, August 14, 2011, when they pulverized http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 by an innings and 242 runs. This was the Poms' third win in as many matches over Team India. However, they have to wait for a few days
to see their name on top of the ranking list, as ICC will update the table on August 22.
