Stuart Broad ruled out of the World Cup due to side strain – ICC World Cup 2011 news
England have faced another setback after their ace bowler Stuart Broad was ruled out of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2011 due to a side strain.
According to reports, Broad picked a side strain injury which was confirmed by scans taken after England’s triumph over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 on Sunday. Broad took four wickets for 15 runs in that match.
The injury has also been confirmed by the chief medical officer of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Nick Peirce. According to him, the injury was serious and required an immediate recall of the pacer from the World Cup. “Scans have confirmed a
significant side strain injury,” he explained.
Broad’s participation in the Indian Premier League is also in doubt now and there is a chance that he will miss the lucrative league competition which is set to begin right after the World Cup which is taking place in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747. According
to the ECB, Broad’s participation in the upcoming IPL will be based on his rehabilitation process.
Broad on one hand is devastated by his exclusion from the World Cup squad but on the other hand is happy that he would be able to spend some time with his family. The English players have been missing some quality time with their families owing to the hectic
tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 just before the World Cup which lasted for almost five months.
“As frustrated as I am to be missing the rest of the WC & IPL, I'll be at home with my family & friends. I haven't been home properly since 29 Oct,” he tweeted on his Twitter page.
Broad’s departure is a big blow for England as he is the second player they have lost this week, the first one being Kevin Pietersen who had to return home because of a hernia problem which required an immediate surgery. Earlier reports had suggested that
Pietersen could play through the World Cup but his condition got worse and it was decided not to retain him in the squad any longer.
England team management has not confirmed Broad’s replacement. However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajmal-Shahzad-c42489 or Chris Tremlett are the most likely candidates to take his place.
