Stuart Broad sets his eyes on Cricket’s most coveted price
English fast bowler Stuart Broad has set his eyes on the upcoming ICC World Cup that is scheduled to be played in the Subcontinent next month.
The 24-year-old cricketer, who missed the last three Ashes Tests and didn’t take further part in the entire tour due to an abdominal strain, believes that his layoff will prove beneficial during the 2011 World Cup.
The right-hand fast bowler got injured during the second Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval and returned home. However, he is currently with the England squad and is still working on his recovery.
He said, “I don't think the doctors will even let Straussy ask that question. I'm keen to play but I don't think it will happen. I've been unfortunate to miss the last seven weeks but we have got a huge amount of cricket coming up so this little break might just help me fire on all cylinders for the next year or so.”
Broad has been bowling in the nets and attending practice sessions with his team in Australia. He feels that he will regain his full fitness just before cricket’s global event.
The player added, "I'm probably a little bit ahead of schedule. I probably bowled at 50-60 percent yesterday and pulled up fine this morning. Hopefully by the end of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 tour I'll have come off near a full run-up, my aim is to try and play the first warm-up game of the World Cup so I'm hopeful of that."
Currently, England is playing with their second string attack in Australia. Broad will be crucial for England, as he has been one of the best bowlers in the death overs.
His subtle changes in speed, well disguised slow deliveries and slow bouncers have been the hallmark of his brilliant bowling in the final overs.
In his 73 ODI appearances, the right-hand bowler has picked up 124 wickets at an impressive average of 25, including a personal best of 5 for 23.
Broad will be a vital cog in the English wheel, as they will be aiming for their first ever fifty-over World Cup. This is going to be their best chance for the English side to secure the title, as the English side will be in supreme form in cricket’s marquee event.
