Stuart Broad suffers upset stomach but expected to play against India – ICC Cricket World Cup 2011
England’s fast bowler, Stuart Broad missed training on Saturday as he was suffering from an upset stomach ahead of Sunday’s ICC World Cup 2011 Group B match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
England’s captain, Andrew Strauss told a press conference that Broad skipped the nets practice but added that he is expected to recover for tomorrow’s game. “He (Broad) is struggling with a bit of a tummy upset today," Strauss told the media at the Chinnaswamy
Stadium in Bangalore.
Strauss added that apart from Broad’s health, the team has finally recovered from the various injuries that plagued the side before beginning their World Cup bid. The fitness of the lanky speedster is very important for the Poms, as he is the key to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749’s
worrying and lack-lustre bowling options against a strong Indian side. Broad’s combination, with his new ball partner, James Anderson is critical if England is to have any success against a powerful Indian side.
Broad took the new ball along with Anderson in their first World Cup match against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753 on Tuesday. England had a sluggish game against the Oranje brigade, but managed to win the Group B opener in Nagpur, as Broad took 2 wickets off 65 runs in
his expensive 10 overs.
Strauss reported that the 24-year-old had a similar complaint when the 15-man squad arrived in the Subcontinent two weeks ago. However, despite the discomfort, he claimed five wickets in each of the warm-up fixtures against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
Broad had recently returned to his form after being out of the team for almost two months due to a stomach muscle strain that ruled him out of the 2010-11 Ashes and the One Day International series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
England is likely to go with the same squad that they used in their opening game against Netherlands, but the English skipper stated that they could bring in and extra spinner, Michael Yardy. It will be exciting to see how England manages to adapt to the
conditions and face a strong team like India.
