Stuart Broad's dream of 2010 Ashes over
Stuart Broad was aware of the fact that he will be ruled out for the rest of the tour, once the injury over-whelmed him. This happened when he was bowling his second spell on Monday afternoon. The brilliant win of the England team by an innings and 71 runs
is now tempered with the injury of Broad, who is ruled out of the remainder of Ashes matches.
The announcement came before the last day's play at Adelaide, after which England Cricket Board CMO confirmed the injury to be a massive one. Nick Pierce briefed that the right arm fast bowler had suffered a frayed abdominal muscle. The pacer is going to
return home, due next Wednesday, where a ten week rehabilitation programme awaits him. This exercise will be an attempt to get him fit and running for the upcoming World Cup in the subcontinent.
“Obviously I am heart-broken. I am distraught at leaving the tour,” explained Broad to the media. He explained how the feeling that he will be in trouble was already there when he started the spell. He went through a few overs, but according to him it was
like someone “stabbing” in the stomach. The tour was pretty much over for him after that, however, the attempt to bowl a few overs was meant to pick up at least one wicket. “I was going for broke then, and just trying to get a wicket before I was gone,” said
Broad.
Stuart Broad was off the field after that, undergoing some medical tests. While off the field, the pacer was seen bowling at practice with a belt around his tattered waist. But the medicine ball was even too much for him to carry along and bowl. He returned
to the field later, but did not bowl another over.
The next focus for the player seems to be the World Cup for now. After the Ashes dream comes to an end, he hopes to be 100% fit for the battle in the sub-continent. The mega event starts on the 19th of February, which means nine weeks from now.
But the rehab programme will keep the pacer away for ten weeks. However, the pacer is adamant that even if he recovers a bit late, chances of his participation there are high. For the moment, this is what he intends to do, prepare for the World Cup hard and
recover from the injury in a complacent manner.
