Stuart Carrington and Adam Duffy make tour debut in the 2011-12 snooker season - World snooker news
Grimsby potter, Stuart Carrington and his compatriot Adam Duffy have secured their spots in the pro tour of 2011-12 snooker season, that starts from June 20 with the first event of the Players Tour Championship (PTC) 2011.
The duo is making their debut at the season’s main tour, after they grabbed pro tour spots by winning their respective quarter-finals in the World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) 2011 Event three. They defeated Stephen Craigie and David Gray, respectively, with the same score line of 4-2.
Carrington, surged into the third round of the Q School after beating James Silverwood and Charlie Walters in the first two matches, but lost to Chen Zhe 1-4 in the third phase. The Englishman tried his luck in the second event, but crashed out of the third round at the hands of Simon Bedford.
However, he was successful in the last event, when he defeated Stephen Craigie 4-2 in their quarter-final clash. The 21-year-old fired some terrific knocks of 66, 83 and 50 to clinch victory.
While speaking to the media, Carrington said, “It's a dream come true to turn pro, especially as I have come very close before. In 2009 I finished second to Jimmy Robertson on the EASB tour - if I'd won a couple more frames over the season I would have been top and got a main tour place.”
The 19-year-old Duffy failed to win a pro tour ticket in the first two events of the Q School, as he lost in the first round of event one, while in the second event he lost to David Morris 0-4 in the fourth round.
The Eckington potter, Duffy, did not lose hope and entered the third Q School event with strong determination. He ousted Lyndon Gordon, Stephen Rowlings, Li Hang and Alex Davies in the first four rounds to go head-to-head against David Gray in the quarter-final. Duffy beat Gray 4-2 and finally earned a main tour spot.
Duffy was happy with his performance and said, “It's not sunk in yet that I'm on the main tour. After that year I had a bit of a lapse, but recently I've been working hard and it has paid off.”
Both cueists will be looking forward to perform well in their first professional tour and try to grab a place in the top-64 players.
