Stuart Carrington ecstatic after winning pro tour card of 2011-12 season: World Snooker news
The Grimsby potter, Stuart Carrington, has qualified for the main tour of 2011-12 season, after grabbing the quarter-final victory over Stephen Craigie, in the World Snooker Qualifying School Event three, on Saturday, May 28.
The event was held at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
The 21-year-old Carrington made a long struggling run in all three events of the Q School trying to reach the milestone of booking a main tour place. The youngster faced exits in the third rounds of the first two events. The young cueist now feels great
and hopes high to perform well in the pro tour, after his spirited performance in the last match.
Carrington defeated James Silverwood 4-1 and Charlie Walters 4-3, to setup a Chen Zhe clash in the third round of the Q School Event one, where he lost to the Chinese by the score line of 1-4.
The young Englishman continued his struggle of winning the main tour card in the second event and reached the third round against Simon Bedford, after ousting James Loft 4-0 and Bhavesh Sodha 4-0, in the first and second round, respectively.
Carrington gave Bedford a tough time in the third round but after the game entered into the decider frame, Carrington could not keep hold of his momentum and lost by the score line of 3-4 in the end.
The third event of the Q School proved lucky for the young snooker star, as he was able to win the first pro tour ticket of his career. He trashed Nick Jennings 4-0, Justin Astley 4-0, Li Hang 4-1 and Ian Burns 4-1 in the first four rounds, respectively,
to face his friend Craigie in the quarter-final clash. Grimsby’s Carrington clinched the main tour ticket after he took care of Craigie 4-2 in their encounter.
Carrington was elated after the game and said, “This is everything I have dreamed of since picking up a snooker cue. It will take a while to sink in, but I'm now a pro – not an amateur – and it feels great. I've finally done it and it's a dream come true.”
In reply to a question about his quarter-final opponent, Craigie, he added, “Stephen and I are great mates. We joked before the first round that if we both won four matches we would meet each other, and that's what happened.”
When asked about the match, the Grimsby potter said, “On the table, though, we are enemies of course, but it wasn't nice having to play him for a pro ticket. I wasn't too nervous. I knew I was playing well and was just focused on winning. I had got the better
of him the previous few times we had played, however, and that was in the back of my mind.”
The other players who qualified for the main tour of the 2011-12 snooker season starting next month are Andrew Norman, Adam Wicheard, David Grace, Robin Hull, Li Yan, Tian Pengfei, Simon Bedford, David Morris, Kurt Maflin, David Gilbert and Adam Duffy.
