Stuart Carrington faces Ken Doherty, Tony Drago in qualifiers: 2011 Australian Goldfields Open
Englishman, Stuart Carrington is now in Sheffield waiting for his first qualifying match against Scott Mackenzie at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. If Carrington goes through, he will meet
two former world champions, Ken Doherty and Tony Drago, in the qualifiers of 2011 Audtralian Goldfields Open.
Carrington has to win all four of his qualifying encounters to grab a spot in the Last-32 of the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open. Before Doherty and Drago, the Englishman has to nudge down Mackenzie
and Andy Hicks. Carrington hopes to make it to the Bendigo Stadium in July but for that he will have to play extraordinarily against his opponents in the qualifying session.
While speaking to the local media, Carrington said, "The challenge excites me. I could be playing bigger names now, like Tony and Ken, and that's what you are trying to achieve. When you win one match,
things start to get a bit tougher and that's what it's about. To get to Australia would be great, but just to get through two or three qualifying rounds would still be a big achievement for me."
Carrington grabbed his first main tour ticket in the third event of Q School after beating Stephen Craigie 4-2 in the quarter-final clash. The English cueman, Carrington, started his first pro tour
with Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 1 but could not make it to the advanced stages and crashed out of the first rounds at the hands of Robert Wilkins by 4-2.
The player added, "It could have gone either way. He just made a couple of good breaks at the wrong times for me. He went 3-0 up but on another day I could easily have been 2-1 ahead. I know I've
got enough (ability) to compete with these players, but if you lose it's not a disaster."
The qualifiers for the first ever major ranking event in Australia, 2011 Australian Goldfields Open, are under way at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. The tournament will run from July 18 to
24 at the Bendigo Stadium in Victoria.
